The state-of-the-art research building complex has been created in the immediate vicinity of the HU Departments of Physics and Chemistry and numerous other innovative institutes and companies. With its laboratory, office and communication areas, it offers optimal conditions for researching and developing hybrid systems for electronics, optoelectronics and photonics as well as for the mathematical physics of space, time and matter.
You can find excerpts from the opening speeches here. A recording of the entire event can be found on Youtube.
Modeling Materials at Realistic time Scales via Optimal Exploitation of Exascale Computers and Artificial Intelligence
A Workshop and Hands-on Tutorial, July 25 – 29, 2022
During the week of 25-29 July, the successful workshop and hands-on tutorial on Modeling Materials at Realistic time Scales via Optimal Exploitation of Exascale Computers and Artificial Intelligence took place. The event was hosted by IRIS Adlershof and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and was a collaboration between them and the Pritzker School of the University of Chicago, CECAM, NOMAD, ECAM and MICCOM.
The successful completion and the gradual commissioning of the new IRIS Research Building in late 2020 have been a highlight. The Research Building is dedicated to the research area Hybrid Systems for Optics and Electronics and it improves significantly IRIS Adlershof’s lab facilities and scientific infrastructure:
Humboldt Research Fellow Carlos-Andres Palma shows, why and how he explores nanographene materials and their phonon properties at IRIS Adlershof:
In September 2020 the mathematical physicist Nichol Furey (U Cambridge), joined IRIS Adlershof as a Freigeist fellow of the Volkswagen Foundation, to study a special number system, the octaves. She would like to prove that the behavior of elementary particles can be predicted using this system:
As an example of successful work with young talents, we present the Research Training Group 2575 Rethinking Quantum Field Theory:
IRIS Adlershof is connecting with many other disciplines such as architecture, art history, psychology, neuroscience, and cultural science. A particular project is the Cube of Physics and its recent extension, the Hypercube of Physics:

Wispers of String Theory
An international meeting of physicists working in the most challenging and abstract field. A good sports commentator can turn you into a fan, likewise we are drawn into this secluded world by the right people: scientists telling about their colleagues- brave, intimate, direct... in whispers.
